1860 Census

      Living in or near Beaumont.  Census was taken 7/5/1860.  He was living at dwelling 273 at the home of Joseph E Rogers who was a wheel right.  Also living there was a Nicy Ann Abott age 52, spinster, born in Georgia.  James was 25 (1835), laborer, born in Miss.

 

1870 Census

       Living in Sabine Parish, La. - PO Many or Burkeville. - 39 year old white male born in Miss (1831).  Was a farmer with estate worth $125.  Living with (1)Adeline, age 25 (1845), house keeper, born in La (2) John 9 yr old born in La.

  • James WAbott - white male,48 yrs old, Married, Farmer, born in Miss., Father born in Iowa and mother born in Indiana.
  • Sarah - white female, 34 yrs old.,wife, House keeper, born in Miss., both parents born in Ga.
  • John Long - white male, 19 yrs old, step son, single, working on farm, born in La., father born inVa. and mother born in Miss.
  • Richard Montgomery - white male, 13 yrs old, step son, working on farm, born in La., father was born in Miss. and mother was born in Miss.

1900 Census

      Living in Newton County - Listed as J W, head of household, white male, born April 1832 in Miss., Married for 30 years (1870), Father was born in Maryland and mother was born in Georgia. Was a farmer, could read and write, was renting.  Was living with (1) Lucinda - Born Nov. 1826 in Fla., had 6 children with 4 surviving, both parents were born in North Carolina, could not read or write.
