Amanda Drake - Fred, Tyler, Texas - Approved 25 march 1907 - applied 2 Jan. 1907

52 yrs old (Born abt 1855) - Resided in Tyler County for 46 yrs (1859).

Unable to worth or support herself.

Married 24 October 1865 - Husband died 5 April 1906

Has remained unmarried since his death.

He served in Co. D 21st Texas Volunteer Infantry from 1861-1865.

Made her mark instead of signature.

Witnesses were Abe Smart and J N Drake.

War Department states that husband enlisted 24 November 1861.

A copy of their marriage license is included in the application - they were married by S. C. Martin, M.G.

Affidavit from J N Drake states that her husband enlisted at Sabine Pass.

Contains Application for Mortuary Warrant - she died 23 January 1937 at the home of her daughter - Mrs. Johnnie Smart. R S Farmer was the undertaker. She died of chronic Bright's disease.

Applied - 14 Aug. 1899

Approved - 27 Jan.1900

Age - 60 as of October 1898 (born ca 1838)

Lived in Village Mills for the past 59yrs. (moved to Texas ca. 1840)

Occupation - Farmer

Physical condition - troubled with heart trouble and nearly blind. Unable to work because of blindness.

Estate - 11 pony worth $20, 12 head of hogs worth $1 each, Household effects worth $25, 1 bale of cotton worth $22.50

No income

Was destitute and want of subsistence.

Placed his mark instead of signing.

J D Collier and J M Holliman signed as witnesses that they knew of his service.

Dr. W P Chapman signed the application saying that Mr. Drake was blind in one eye and could see very little out of the other and was unable to work to make a living.

Application was signed by commissioners - J M Rotan, H D Seamans, L P Bell, W R Shillings.
